Guy Read
Taken down for the editor in 1916 by A. B. H., at the time a student in the University of Maine. She was unable to determine whether the title is "George Read" or " Gee Read." From another source it appears that the correct name is "Guy Read."
1 Oh! well do I remember,
One dark and stormy night The rain it fell in torrents, While the lightning flashed so bright.
2 The moon and stars above me
Could not their light reveal; For dark clouds so gloomy Did their welcome light conceal.
3 The post brought me a letter
I hastened to peruse; T was written by a friend of mine, It bore me startling news.
4 For once I knew a fine young man
As ever you did see; All in an instant he Was hurled into eternity.
5 He and his companions,
Where waters loudly roar, Were breaking in the landings On the Androscoggin's shore. |
